triple boot step 1

first of all you need to create separate partition for each os with size as follows

vista :16 gb {if you don't have to insall too many softwares requiring large hd space,else, 30 gb is enough]
win 7: same as vista
xp:depends on xp but 16 gb to 20 gb will work fine for all xp(xp i installed required 12 gb of free hd space)
ubuntu:10 to 12 gb is enough.(in case you have some private files you don't want others to know about then   
keeping it in ubuntu partition is best option for it won't be visible in win 7 and xp.so you can add the size depending on the size of those files).Creating the new partition is very easy if you are using win 7.But you need third party sofwares if you are using xp.but you can create parition while booting with xp so you don't need to create them before.you can see how to create partition from win 7 in my other post.\
